Best time to visit Spain
Season patterns for Spain in plain terms — when the weather cooperates, when crowds and prices peak, and when to think twice.
The seasons
Spain through the year
Peak season
April to June and September to October are the sweet spots: warm without the worst heat, with cities and coasts both in full swing.
Shoulder seasons
March and November are cooler and quieter; the south stays mild while the north and centre need layers.
Low season
July and August bake the inland cities, and August empties local businesses in places like Madrid as residents leave; the northern coast stays comfortable. Deep winter is cold inland.
Festivals and dates to know
Semana Santa (Holy Week) fills southern cities with processions, Pamplona's San Fermin runs each July, and La Tomatina takes over Bunol in late August.
