Hotels in Portugal
Which areas of Portugal suit which kind of trip, what to check before you book there — and a partner link that checks the live price for your dates.
Check Radisson stays in Portugal
We list no properties and no prices for Portugal — hotel line-ups change and rates move daily. This button goes to Radisson's own site, where every property and the live price for your dates are shown before you pay. When the hotel feed connects to this site, live property listings will appear in this same panel.
Where to stay
The areas of Portugal, honestly described
General guidance on the districts travellers choose between — follow the partner link above to see which specific hotels are on sale for your dates.
Lisbon: Baixa, Chiado and Alfama
Baixa and Chiado are flat, central and full of hotels of every size. Alfama is the oldest quarter — charming, steep, and short on larger properties.
Porto: Ribeira and Baixa
Staying near the river in Ribeira or up in Baixa keeps the old town and the port cellars across the bridge within walking distance.
The Algarve
The south coast splits between resort towns with big beach hotels and smaller old towns such as Lagos and Tavira. A car earns its keep here more than anywhere else in Portugal.
Madeira and the Azores
Island stays centre on Funchal in Madeira and a handful of towns in the Azores, and are usually booked as a single-base trip.
Before you book
What to look for when booking in Portugal
- Lisbon and Porto are hill cities: a central address can still mean a steep walk home, which is worth checking on a map before booking.
- Older Portuguese buildings can mean smaller rooms and thinner walls; the standard of recent renovations varies widely within the same price band.
- Algarve properties are seasonal, with reduced services outside the summer months.
- Breakfast ranges from coffee and pastry to a full buffet — check whether it is included before comparing rates.
